The typical ingredients for sugar free desserts are fruits, vegetables and other natural products. Sugar free desserts rarely include granular sugar and in some cases even if it includes sugar, its quantity is very low and almost negligent. In general granular sugar is an ingredient that people should avoid at any expense.

Although the name suggests that sugar free desserts are sugar free and in practice such desserts do not contain granular sugar as an ingredient, they still have other types of carbohydrates. Usually this is complex sugar that are contained in vegetables and fruits. This complex sugar is regarded to be much less harmful, than granular (simple) sugar. However the former one tastes as good as the latter one, so many people simply do not see any difference between sugar free desserts and normal ones.

Since normal desserts and sugar free desserts taste similarly, it is not very hard to substitute one by another. However this almost unnoticeable substitution creates big difference for you and the amount of sugar you receive daily. Since sugar is the main source for calories, less sugar means less calories.

People that suffer from excess weight or diabetes are forced to change their lifestyle, give up their favorite snacks and move to new ones. Sugar free desserts softens this painful process and makes this substitution almost unnoticeable. People giving up their favorite desserts can enjoy food that is very similar to the one that they used to have in the past.

There are few reasons why people choose to move to sugar free desserts and give up normal ones. But typically such a decision is induced by the need to control blood sugar level or lose weight. Normal desserts are tasty, but due to their high energetic value they cause fattening. On the contrary, sugar free desserts are low-calorie snacks and does not cause fattening.

The reason why people want to control blood sugar level is diabetes. Diabetes is serious disease and characterized by the situation, when body cannot control sugar level in the blood. To avoid the further complication of the disease, a person should continuously monitor his sugar level and control it artificially. In this respect sugar free desserts can provide a great deal of help.

Bon Appétit

I have several tasty and most importantly healthy recipes for sugar free desserts to share! The recipes contain neither saccharin nor fructose, because as we all know they are not very healthy, instead you can use crystallized honey (solid) or dried fruits. Remember for people with diabetes it is best to eat sugar free desserts. The deserts may be sweetened with natural products rather than with artificial sweeteners that can cause side effects!

Sugar Free Desserts: Apple Pie

Ingredients:

- 1 / 4 – 1 1 / 2 kg of grated apples (use yellow apples, which are sweet and juicy)

- 1 / 2 cup of chopped walnuts

- a few tablespoons of semolina

- cinnamon

- dough for pie (flour, 200ml water; 3 tablespoons oil and salt)

If you want to obtain a pie as sweet as possible you could replace some apples with pears (squeeze them well till they run out of juice) and add a few raisins in the composition.

Lay on the pan the first lair of the dough so that the edges of lair overcome the edges of the pan. Sprinkle a few spoons of semolina on the liar. Then add the following composition: apples, nuts and cinnamon. Now put over the second liar of dough and glue the edges of two liars. And you are done!

Sugar Free Desserts: Baklava

Ingredients:

- 400g thin dough sheets for pies

- 400g walnuts

- 1 packet of butter

- 300-400 ml of honey

First crush the walnuts. In a pan of 30x35cm size place 2 sheets of dough and bake them in the oven until they become crisp. Remove the pan from the oven and after it cools a little bit place the sheets for the pie one by one and sprinkle each with nuts, do that till the dough sheets and the nuts finish (take care to lay the first sheets so as their edges are placed out because they need to be bended). After you bend the edges of the sheets, place another 2 sheets on the top. Then cut them into squares or rhombs.

Melt the butter in a pot and all the cuts that you just made need to be blanched with the hot butter and then let it cook in the oven. Bake till it gets slightly brown. Then remove from the oven and blanch with the boiling syrup made of honey and 600 ml water. Put back in the oven until it gets golden. If you want you can add extra syrup. Allow to cool and then cut.
